Internship of up to 1 year, working with drones in a farming application.
Location:
Near Alnwick, Northumberland – (approximately 25 miles south of the Scottish Border at its most easterly point.)
Or remote work maybe possible, with regular visits to Northumberland!
Internship:
Situated in gorgeous, rural Northumberland, we are offering candidates a flexible internship of up to one year at Drone Ag, with working hours from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
We are a small team, so communication is easy and straightforward, and everyone answers to the same person.
We all work in the same office space, which is a relaxed working environment pretty much all of the time. We work hard, but we enjoy life and have a laugh.
Everyone is free to grab themselves refreshments throughout the day and take short breaks, plus a 1 hour lunch break. Our workflow is mostly assigned work, alongside tasks that we work on every day, such as emails, office organisation/tidying etc.
The main focus of our business at the moment is the app we’re developing, so there will be a lot of focus on that during the internship.
The Work:
This internship is focused on computer science, in particular looking at AI based image analysis. But that doesn’t mean you’ll be stuck inside, we believe in trial and error as a primary means of development, so you will be out in the field, capturing data, and then seeing what you can do with it.
- Work will include but is not limited to:
- Learning to fly and use drones.
- Familiarising with our app.
- Using mapping software.
- Testing and development of AI analysis models
- Larger scale data analysis.
Work Travel:
Occasionally we’ll be attending agricultural shows or running training courses and will therefore be staying away during those weeks, during which the working hours may be extended.
If you are required to drive long distances in your own vehicle, you will be able to claim back mileage.
We travel about once every month and a half, sometimes more.
Accommodation:
Whilst we cannot guarantee on-site accommodation, there is always a possibility something will be available on the farm!
Requirements / Preferences:
- Candidates must have skills within either AI or data analysis fields.
- Candidates with a full UK driving license and a car would be preferred.
- We travel relatively often, so having the ability to travel independently is very useful.
- Some experience with drones would be useful/preferred, but it is not essential.
(We can teach you that bit!)
A testimonial from our last intern:
“I really enjoyed my placement at Drone Ag, it was the perfect 9 months to fill my placement year at uni! I learnt a lot of skills including drone maintenance and I delved further into the crop agronomy scene but using drones.
I think my experience at Drone Ag is very valuable and I have already had companies asking me if I want to work there after my final year at university. A lot of companies are looking at going into the drone market so love seeing previous experience.
I found the work environment close knit and fun. It’s a small team which means you feel much more valued compared to working for a large company. I got on well with everyone and ended up doing things outside of work as well whilst I was up north and away from home!”
